A cluttered environment at home or work can become a major cause of stress. This happens because clutter impedes your ability to focus, making it more difficult to work effectively and to achieve your goals for the day. On the contrary, being organized helps you work accurately and quickly, more focused and with better results.
Getting organized is also good for your personal life, as it helps you enjoy more free time with family and friends, switch off and unwind during downtime.
Get organized by following these recommendations:
1. Have a daily planner
The first step to get organized is to write down in your calendar or daily planner the tasks you must do every day, professional or personal. Choose the type of planner that you like the most (paper, digital...), but always keep your to-do list up to date.
2. Prioritize tasks
Prioritize your tasks by classifying them according to their urgency, importance, and effort. To do this you can ask yourself the following questions:
What tasks should be done on the same day?
Which ones are important because of their impact?
What tasks require more time and energy?
3. Check your planner at the beginning and end of the day
This way you will know what the pending tasks are, and you will be able to plan the next day, rescheduling the tasks that you have not been able to do or that you have had to postpone.
4. Don't let your to-do list be a source of stress
A planner or to-do list is very helpful for getting organized, but you must be aware that not all tasks can always be fulfilled. Sometimes, unforeseen events don’t let you achieve your goals, and you must accept it without stressing. If this happens, be flexible and reschedule tasks for the next day as best you can.
5. Set a schedule for each activity
Set a fixed schedule for daily tasks that are repeated, such as eating, resting, playing sports or leisure activities. This way, body and mind will gradually adapt to that schedule until it becomes a habit.
6. Take a break
Taking short breaks helps you relax, clear your mind, and focus on the tasks that remain to be done.
7. Avoid misuse of technology
We live in a hyperconnected world: emails, notifications, phone calls or social networks constantly interrupt our tasks. Device abuse can be a major cause of stress so, don't let technology control you!
8. Keep your working space clean and organized
A clean, uncluttered, and tidy workspace increases productivity, concentration levels and creativity.
9. Don't Multitask
Multitasking increases the risk of mistakes and concentration problems. Pick one task at a time and don't move on to the next until done.
10. Take time for yourself at the end of the day
When you get home, do something to relax: being alone for a while, reading, watching a movie, social activities with family and friends will help to get ready to face the next day.
